In my earlier work, I was trying to represent civilizations as they start out, as people begin to sublimate their most basic experiences. In order to have a civilization, you have to start sublimating instincts or everyone will tear each other to shreds. Now I'm using the circular world image. The first The World All Around was about how we project ourselves on to everything, the beginning toddler stage. If you've ever read any Piaget, the toddler stage is when you assume the world is yourself. The next stage is when you begin to realize the world is exerting a power over you and you have no control over it.
