12. At least one of Davis's Gloucester friendships was to have lasting repercussions. He stayed in contact with the writer Elliot Paul, who moved to Paris and founded, with Eugene Jolas, the vanguard magazine Transition, which regularly published, along with other experimental writers, Gertrude Stein. When Davis went to Paris in 1928, Paul arranged for him to see Stein's celebrated collection, introduced him to Léger (with whom Davis exchanged studio visits), and tried to arrange a meeting with Picasso.
