hand that crumbles
from Andrew Joron's The Removes

   hand that crumbles
At first touch
To ash — premonition
   of a first reading

   torso that curls
Heavenward, asking eyes
   that migrate
   up like smoke

A second skin, or reading that doubles
   as sky-writing

The fixed place in
   emptiness — "a crowd"
Foreshadowed by "a cloud" (the nucleus

Of predicates)
The reading come to dust's divining

Gray on gray, the wing
Pinned to its identity. Its stain

Sustained by revocation
