Jesus Dreams
from Frank Lima's The Beatitudes

His long fingers begin to sweat
As He pulls on the udder of the dream
As round as a melon
He licks His dripping fingers
And says:
I am a man
And this is my dream
Not an afterthought of God
Who lives in the sky on a pillow
Whose hobby is reproductive surgery
I am as innocent as my first prayer
I am as innocent as my first ejaculation
The droplets are the lights
Of Bethlehem
Because
I am the double man
Like any other man
Like any son of God
One body among you
During the night
The other belongs
To the women in my the dream
Who are shaped like bread
Who grace my shame
By splashing milk
